Defining Moments: Discovering our Canadian Stories

Youth from across Canada have been contributing to a national dialogue on what it means to be Canadian by submitting artwork that reflects their experiences living in this country. Since last August Defining Moments: Discovering our Canadian Stories (www.canadianmoments.ca) has received hundreds of submissions that reflect some of the most pressing viewpoints of our young generations.

We will be accepting submissions of your experiences living in Canada until March 1st! Any medium is welcomed – just go to the ART CONTEST page to submit your work. Submissions will be automatically entered into the online collection and could be seen in select locations across the country when our traveling exhibit launches in July, 2012.

De-friend Workshop

MFA Fibre student Sarah Gotowka is offering a one day workshop where she will introduce how to embed text into friendship bracelets through the traditional techniques of bead weaving  and macrame knotting. This workshop will begin with a small artist talk and lecture, presenting research that questions the shifting values of what it really means to be "friends" in contemporary society.  The majority of the workshop will function as a quilting bee of sorts; a sharing of snacks, stories, and intimacies while weaving narratives of the 21st century.Please register by email to [email protected] by March 1st if you are interested in participating. A minimum of 10 people is required for the workshop to proceed.There is a maximum of 16 spaces available, so reserve your spot ASAP!Some demonstration materials will be supplied, but you are encouraged to bring your  own for a project (a list will be provided upon registration).
