MFA student Emily Jan creates effigies of the animals that dwell in the collective imagination of the West. Composed of everyday North American materials such as wool, recycled cloth, and found objects, they are the fantasy of the exotic fabricated from the materiality of the mundane.

She holds a BA in Theatre, Speech and Dance from Brown University (2000) and a BFA in Painting/Drawing from California College of the Arts (2009). Prior to moving to Montreal, she worked for a decade as an artist, designer, educator, and sometime journalist in the United States, South Africa, and Mexico.

This year's Fibre's Student Association is continuing the Stitch Your Heart Out series with a focus on unisex triangular shawls.  All you have to do is bring yourself and $10 to each 2 hour session and we supply the rest (unless you have a particular yarn in mind for your scarf, if so - bring it).

This class is suitable for knitters with various degrees of experience, from beginner to beyond-basic knitters, since different ways of structuring the scarf will be chosen to suit individual students' knitting levels.

The first session is Wednesday September 28th at Cafe X (VA location) from 4pm - 6pm

See you there,
Janna

Remember last year when each time we revealed our monthly Yarn Club batch, you were sad that you hadn't signed up for it?  Well we're back, so you have another chance to get some gorgeous yarn in your mailbox each month.  This year there are only two opportunities for you to support the Fibres Student Association in this way.  So sign up for a three-month subscription before September 26th to receive yarn in your mailbox in October, November and December, or between September 27th and December 23rd to receive yarn in your mailbox in January, February and March.  Remember this isn't just any yarn; it's luscious hand-painted-by-us yarn.  It doesn't get better than that!

Above is the Yarn Club's March 2011 batch which was a 100% merino wool, lace weight yarn naturally dyed with indigo

Fundraising initiatives by the FSA help us to fund visiting artists, student exhibitions and educational trips :)
