Have you been knitting for a long time but are afraid to try lace?  This is the workshop for you!  Come to Cafe X in the EV building on Wednesday February 23rd between 1pm and 4pm and Janna Vallee will be there to teach you simple lace knitting techniques and help you on your first swatch (which will double as an awesome book mark)

The Stitch Your Heart Out Series is a fundraising initiative by the Fibres Student Association.  Each workshop is $15 including a set of yarn and needles for students to take home.

Here's what our subscribers got last month!  It's merino again, oh how we love merino; it's so soft.  For those of you who received it here's a link to a pattern I think would be great for it.

Here is the December Yarn Club shipment, isn't it lovely?  It is a squishy soft merino dyed with acid dyes (turquoise and black)-  I've called this colourway Storm.  I used a resist/immersion method that achieves that beautiful variegation.  I can't wait to see how it knits up.  Bellow are some free patterns that I found around the web that I think Storm would work great in.

Help us raise funds by getting a haircut outside the Fine Arts Reading Room this Thursday between 2pm and 5pm.  Stephanie is our stylist, and she really knows what she's doing! Pay what you can.

Learn how to knit this Wednesday at our Stitch Your Heart Out workshop.  We didn't advertise well for the last one on October 27th, so if you are a beginner please come to the one this week, we'll hook you up (that would have much more punny if we were talking crochet - a future workshop idea perhaps).

merino wool, hand-spun and hand-dyed with hibiscus flowers
The FSA is so grateful to you first subscribers, so we are showing our appreciation by starting off with a bang.  Don't worry this doesn't mean the next ones won't be as yummy, they will.  I am calling this colourway Dusty Rose.  It is hand-spun merino yarn dyed with hibiscus flowers.

bellow are some process photos of it being dyed.  You might be surprised by the colours you see in the dye pot, but alas that is testament to the tricky business of natural dyeing.

Mask Making

10/23/2010

One of our fundraising initiatives this year is mask making for Halloween.  We got together last Wednesday and had a lot of fun printing and cutting them out for you all to enjoy.   They will be available next week at Cafe X for only $3

Yarn Candy: Sweet fibre by Melissa
We are excited to introduce our first fundraising initiative of the year! The Yarn Club!

The Yarn Club is a fun and interesting way for people to support the FSA.  Subscribers sign up for 3 months at a time to receive 100 grams of hand-dyed yarn each month.  The fun part is that it is you get a SUPRISE each month as to what kind of yarn you'll receive and what the colourway will be.  The sure thing is that the yarn will be a luscious natural fibre and the colourway will be delicious!

Here at the Concordia Fibres Program we dye fibres using a plethora of techniques which offer infinite possibilities, from natural dyeing, indigo dyeing to acid dyeing and fibre reactive dyeing!

Who is it for?  If you are a knitter, crocheter or weaver this is for you!

Not any of those things?  You may want to consider a subscription as a gift for a yarn loving friend or family member!

What do I get?  300 grams of luscious hand-dyed yarn!  We send you 100 grams a month!

What can I expect?  The yarn you receive will always be a natural fibre suitable to the season, and the colour will always be delicious!  Each month you will receive a new amazing colourway!

Yarn Boosters are available to subscribers who wish to have more yarn at a discount as well as not having to pay more for shipping.

As a subscriber you have the choice to have the yarn arrive in your mail box every month (for $95 including tax and shipping) or to pick it up at Concordia University (for $70 including tax) if you live close by.
